Montgomery County has a list of over 11,000 outstanding warrants as of July 2008. This list includes individuals who have been stopped by the county police for DUI, driving without a license or without insurance. This type of driving puts the entire community at risk. Why does Montgomery County have so many outstanding warrants? Is it because there are so many individuals that the police cannot find at the recorded residence? Or is it that so many out of state individuals are in Maryland? Or is it that Maryland draws so many illegals who have no regard for our laws? The below list if a recap of outstanding warrants: 1,276 are for Driving without a License 1,579 are for Driving on a Suspended License 715 are for Driving an Uninsured Vehicle 1,978 are for DUI / DWI 160 are for Hit and Run The county police do not ask if a person is in the county illegally or does it run a check with ICE on individuals who are stopped for vehicle violations. It is time that the county executive and the chief of police implement new procedures for individuals who are stopped for traffic violations such as the above. It is the duty of our elected officials to protect the citizens of the county and ensure that individuals who break our laws are punished. New Comment |
